Pasadena’s British bar

Brits may be Pasadena’s most singularly unlikely watering hole. Far removed from the wasteland that often characterizes Old Town, Brit’s lies only a few blocks east of Pasadena City College in as unassuming a storefront as possible on the ever-busy and important Colorado Blvd.

Brits is combination bar/restaurant, with the bar half serving up beer and wine only from many taps that include Bass and Guinness from the other side of the pond, as well as American and Pasadena favorites for this side of the Pacific…er, Atlantic. The menu serves up traditional English (and even some Indian) favorites, like the bangers ’n’ mash, shepherds pie and, of course, fish n’ chips. Soccer—or, as our English pals call it, “football”—is on the TV at almost times, but Brit’s is also a great place to watch more stateside-oriented contests like Lakers games. The patrons and barkeepers are extremely friendly, and you won’t have to shout or scream over the noise at some other more trendy do-drop-in’s.

Much like their counterparts in Merry Olde England, Brits is only open until about 10PM and 11PM on weekends. As you may know, on Britannia the barflies leave the pubs at such an hour to wander over to England’s famous restaurants, so perhaps after treating yourself to a pint or two, head a little bit further west to the Lake or Fair Oaks corridors for a decent meal.

Good show, old bean!
